DENTAL IMPLANTS
Dental implants are often the best and, in some cases, the only solution for recovering various defects in tooth rows. They are inserted into the bone in place of the missing teeth and their purpose is to replace those teeth as well as their roots.
After the placement, the bone envelopes (bonds with) the implant and thus the implant remains strongly “anchored” in it. This process is called osseointegration and takes approximately 3 months. During the recovery period, the dental implant is covered by the gum to protect it from loading. Subsequently, an abutment is screwed onto the implant and the new tooth is fixed on it, similarly to crowns. The dental implant takes on the masticatory loading instead of the root and gently transfers it to the bone in almost the same way as real teeth.

What is a dental implant?
After the placement, the bone envelopes (bonds with) the implant and thus the implant remains strongly “anchored” in it. This process is called osseointegration and takes approximately 3 months. During the recovery period, the dental implant is covered by the gum to protect it from loading. Subsequently, an abutment is screwed onto the implant and the new tooth is fixed on it, similarly to crowns. The dental implant takes on the masticatory loading instead of the root and gently transfers it to the bone in almost the same way as real teeth.
At what age is an implant treatment possible?
Dental implants are placed on patients who are at least 17-18 years old – when the growth of the jaw is completed. There is no upper age limit for conducting an implant treatment.
What are the advantages of implant treatment over bridge treatment?
- Adjacent teeth are not filed down.
- There is no risk of complications with the teeth under the bridge (overloading, caries or granuloma).
- Bone atrophy in the toothless area is prevented.
- Functionally and aesthetically it is almost indistinguishable from a real tooth.
How long does an implant last?
With regular prophylactic checks (once every 6 months), good hygiene and good overall health, there is no reason for a problem to occur with the placed implant. The lifespan of an implant depends directly not just on the good planning and precise conducting of the treatment but also on the patient’s motivation to maintain the good result.
What preliminary tests are conducted before the dental implant is placed?
Good diagnostics are key to planning the most appropriate treatment. The analysis always begins with a panoramic dental X-ray to get an idea of the anatomy of the toothless area and the adjacent teeth and is often followed by 3D X-ray diagnostics to clarify the specific size and positioning of the implant.
A complete blood count, a blood glucose measurement and a urine test are required. If necessary, an allergy test for the anaesthetics which will be used is also conducted.
Is the dental implants procedure painful?
The intervention itself is painless. The pain after the surgery resembles the pain after a tooth extraction. An operation performed by experienced specialists and with modern equipment minimizes the possible complications and the onset of pain.
What kind of anaesthetic is used?
A local anaesthetic is used, as in tooth extraction. When multiple implants are placed, an anaesthesiologist is often involved in the operation. He or she sedates the patient and provides comfort during surgery, helps for a better recovery period and reduces the risk of complications and pain.
What are the contraindications for conducting an implant treatment?
Implant placement is a safe and predictable procedure. However, there are cases that are not appropriate for this type of treatment. Those are patients with:
- Uncontrolled diabetes.
- Conducted radiation therapy in the maxillofacial area and the neck.
- Intake of biphosphonates.
- Certain system disorders.
What could result in an implant loss?
A dental implant could be lost due to inflammation, failure to follow the advice of a dental professional (for example, reducing or quitting smoking) or problems with dental prosthesis. Inflammation can be avoided by maintaining perfect personal oral hygiene in accordance with the instructions and techniques of brushing, flossing and/or brushing with interproximal brushes provided by the specialist. Regular check-ups, professional cleaning and checking the prosthetic part will definitely reduce the possibility of a loss and compromising the treatment.
Important tips after implant placement or surgery
- Do not eat for 2 hours after the manipulation.
- Avoid intake of hot foods and beverages for 2 hours after the intervention.
- Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking for 2 days after the manipulation.
- For up to 2 hours after surgery keep putting ice on the place of intervention (externally).
- Avoid sleeping on that side and bending your head down.
- Do not brush with a toothbrush at the place of manipulation for 1 day.
- After surgery, avoid heavy manual labour, gym activities, overloading, sauna, hot tub for 3 days.
- Chew on the other side for 2-3 days after the intervention.
- If you have had a sinus lifting, avoid blowing through your nose or spitting heavily.
- If bleeding starts from the wound, use a gauze soaked in cold water, if it continues to bleed, contact your dentist immediately.
In recent years, implantology has undergone tremendous development and plays a major role in the treatment here at EO Dent and in dental medicine in general. The different variants when dental implants are placed provide a diversity of options for our patients. In cases of loss of a tooth, partial or full toothlessness, implants are definitely the right choice for you!
Everyone wants to be able to smile, to have teeth immediately and the teeth to be fixed, without bone augmentation procedures and at no additional financial cost. This is exactly what the innovative SKY Fast & Fixed approach provides to our patients. With it, within one day, moreover, within one visit lasting several hours, without pain, the treatment, extractions, implantation and temporary prostheses are performed so that the patients can have food right after the surgery and not change their rhythm of life and their social contacts. By placing the implants at an angle, the bone can be used optimally for good biomechanical recovery support. Immediate implant loading is directly related to the dental prosthesis. Temporary teeth can be made in less than an hour. Accurate planning of time and the appropriate interventions is achieved through a standardized procedure, that way we and the patients do not encounter unpleasant surprises, and the conditions and the equipment in our newest Specialised Bulgarian German Clinic of Implantology and Surgery guarantee this. Teaming up a dentist with a dental technician and the presence of a dental laboratory in our premises provide a sense of tranquillity and safety to our patients. The comfort during the manipulation and the lack of pain are achieved through the care of our team of anaesthesiologists. Anaesthesia is done through sedation, a special anaesthetic that makes you fall asleep, and when you wake up you have your smile back again without having felt any fear or pain. Yes, the possibilities of the modern dental medicine are enormous! There is nothing more innovative than having a patient come with their real teeth, which, for various reasons, have to be extracted and, right after their extraction (the pulling out of the teeth), placing dental implants on which temporary teeth are placed immediately – all in a single visit. In other words, the patient does not spend a single minute without teeth. He or she eats and smiles properly on the very same day
We believe and see every day how, through pain-free treatment and dental implants, our patients change their lives and regain their smiles!
So, take a firm bite of life with your dental implants!
